Coaches & Committee Members

All our coaches are experienced and fully qualified under the British Amateur Boxing Board of Control and CRB checked.


Martin Benson. Head Coach & Chairman.

After qualifying as a coach he opened the gym 12 years ago as a voluntary, not for profit organisation. He personally financed its set up and maintenance to provide something to do for the young people in the area which was affordable and accessible to everyone regardless of fitness or ability.

Since then with the support of his coaching team Natbridge boxing club has had many successes in competition all the way up to ABA finals winners at national level.

He has participated in amateur boxing since he was a teenager himself and as a coach has won accolades such as community coach of the year and community club of the year. He sees some of his most important achievements in the individual personal successes of all who come through the club.


Alan Hemmings

Alan Hemmings. Coach, Welfare Officer.

Alan has bean with the club for many years. He is involved with people with disabilities and has brought up a number of our current fighters.


Johhny Hopkins

Johny Hopkins. Coach.

Johny has been with the club for many years and previously spared with Martin our current Head Coach when he boxed at amature level. Johny has also assissted in the coaching of Lisa Whiteside. He has also been in the corner with Martin for most of our fighter's bouts.


Alek Walmsly. Coach.

Alex has been coaching at Natbridge for a year. He used to box for Natbridge and had many fights with the gym. Alek first came to the gym when he was 13 as a way to overcome being bullied and has gone from strength to strength.


Mark Houston. Coach.

Mark used to box for the Army but after he finished training with them he came to Natbridge and eventually decided he wanted to help coach. He has been coaching for a year along with Alek.
